Rotating Vehicle Tires May Save Money

Owning a car can be expensive, so maintenance tasks that extend the life of your tires, promote safe driving and are able to be done simply are worth learning. Your tires literally hold your vehicle on the road, so maintenance is extremely important for safety, and may also help prevent a tire-related accident claim being made against your Wisconsin auto insurance.

It’s a good idea to take your car to a professional tire service place to have the procedure done. It’s also helpful to know why it’s important.

Front and rear tires wear very differently. Depending on whether your vehicle is a front or rear wheel drive, more pressure can be placed on front tires during normal driving actions such as parallel parking and three point turns. This means rotating your vehicles tires may help extend their life by equalizing tread wear.

Because tire wear patterns are linked to tire alignment and the vehicle’s suspension system, tires should only ever be rotated from front to back and not side to side or crossways. Ideally, tire rotation should be done every 5,000 to 10,000 miles unless your owner’s manual specifies another timeline.

While saving money and increasing road safety are excellent incentives, keep in mind tire rotation may also have the added benefit of lowering the risk of a claim being made on your Wisconsin auto insurance. Be aware that tire rotation should only be done if your vehicle has four tires of the same size.
