Red, White, and Bleu Slaw (via Taste of Home)

  • 6 cups angel hair coleslaw mix or shredded cabbage
  • 12 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 3/4 cup coleslaw salad dressing
  • 1/2 cup and 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 1/2 cup real bacon bits

In a large bowl, mix coleslaw mix, tomatoes, dressing, and 1/2 cup blue cheese.  Cover and refrigerate to allow the flavors to blend (at least an hour).  Before serving, sprinkle with bacon bits and the remaining blue cheese.  Makes 6 servings.

Patriotic Fruit Salad (via allrecipes.com)

  • 1 pint strawberries, sliced
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 bananas

Mix strawberries and blueberries in a bowl and sprinkle with sugar and lemon juice.  Toss lightly.  Refrigerate until cold (at least half an hour).  About 30 minutes before serving, slice the bananas into 3/4 inch thick slices and toss with berries.
This recipe is easy to mix up—try adding other berries such as raspberries or blackberries.  This recipe is super easy and super refreshing!

Desserts
Fresh produce is in abundance during summer in Wisconsin, so it is easy to jazz up a simple sheet cake or cupcakes with red and blue berries.  Frost your cake or cupcakes with vanilla frosting, then add the berries to create a dessert that Uncle Sam would be proud of!

What’s your favorite Independence Day recipe?  Share your creations with your Wisconsin insurance agency and we will post them on our blog and Facebook!
Have a safe and fun 4th of July!
