As the world turns, our lives continue to move quicker and quicker. Sometimes it is difficult to get a grip on what is going on in front of us. It is important to take the time to slow down and rather than rush through life, enjoy it. The same goes for when you are on the road, except the consequences of moving too quickly can lead to accidents or incarceration.
According to the Stevens Point Journal, Douglas Spangler, 22, escaped from a Marathon County Sheriff’s Department squad car Sunday night. Earlier Monday morning, he was arrested after a high-speed chase in Wood and Portage counties, according to police.
Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday to a home in the town of McMillan. Spangler was accused of harassing a neighbor’s 18-year-old daughter and consequently was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge. A deputy placed Spangler in a squad car and returned to the home to speak with another officer, but when the deputy returned two minutes later, the criminal was missing.
The deputy found the door damaged, window broken, and a small amount of blood on the vehicle. The runaway then stole a car in Marshfield and was spotted driving in the town of Grand Rapids. Spangler led police on a pursuit that reached more than 100 mph on Highway 54, officials reported. The pursuit ended on Highway Q south of Amherst after a tire shredder deflated the speeding car’s wheels.
