Healthy Holiday Tips

Thanksgiving day is almost here and many of us are looking forward to some delicious meals. After Thanksgiving, the holiday season begins and with it comes sugary treats and heaps of seasonal goodies. This time of year makes it very difficult for people to stick to healthy eating regimen. That’s why I’ve put together a list of tips that will help you get through the holidays without gaining that dreaded winter weight.

•Go easy on the appetizers. Although they may seem extremely tempting, many appetizers can be very high in calories and if you find yourself buried in the bowl of chips and dip, your calorie count may be fulfilled pre-dinner.

•Don’t shy away from your normal exercise routine. Keep up with exercising and if anything you should try to participate in a holiday run/walk. Maybe like the Turkey Trot in Stevens Point.

•Turn down the second piece of dessert. One piece of pie or a few Christmas cookies wont kill you. However, don’t continue to go back for more.

•Eat until you are satisfied. Don’t eat everything you possibly can until you are completely stuffed. Small portions of your holiday favorites may be the best route.

•Over-indulging in alcohol can really induce over eating. So try to go light on the alcohol, even if the sangria is rather tempting.

Remember, a few easy changes can really help you sustain your health even through the holidays. These changes may even allow you to choose a News Years Resolution other then, “go to the gym every day.” Trust me we have all been there.
