It’s that time of year again—time to break out the books and set the alarm clock because it’s time to go back to school! Kids across the country are groaning in agony as they prepare to get back into a school routine.
This time of year can also be stressful for parents as they deal with grumpy students and try to get everything organized before the first day of class. Luckily for parents, some of our employees here at Community Insurance offered tried and true tips for back to school season!
Julie at our Iola office has two teenage daughters, so back to school time can be hectic for her family. However, these life-saving tips help Julie keep everything in line. Julie says:
- Have a “message center.” We use our refrigerator and I have a large calendar where we can pencil in all of our events. We also have a lot of magnets to hang important papers and a shopping list that the family can add items to. I also make sure to have a comic strip, family photos, inspiration quotes, or prayers so my kids have something fun to look at.
- After-school sports can be hectic! It is important to pack a light supper in advance for the bus rides to the event. I love making homemade granola, but the old standards of PB&Js, fruit, crackers, and veggies are all great choices as well. My kids also like hummus and veggies, which is a fantastic healthy alternative.
- Car pools are great for kids to get to and from school, but I also think it is important to set up car pools for parents to travel to and from school activities such as sports. It’s not only a great way to meet people, but it also helps save on gas!
- I would encourage parents to join a booster club and help out with concession stands. It’s a fun, social event and the kids love seeing the grown-ups working together and helping out.
Probably the most important and beneficial thing you can do to get ready for back to school is to get organized. The earlier you start the better! How do you prepare for back to school? Do you have any money-saving tips for this time of year?
